Course Description

Brush up on metals and find a career made of steel.
Accelerated Skills Training Application

Welders fabricate and assemble structures, equipment, and other items using blueprints, raw materials, and precision tools. They produce high-quality metal components, make repairs, and work with various materials including steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and exotic alloys.

Program Overview

Valencia's Welding Technology program prepares students for employment in the welding industry through extensive hands-on training, with approximately 90% of instruction taking place in the lab. Students develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to safely set up equipment, interpret weld symbols, fabricate welded assemblies, troubleshoot welding applications, and perform industry-standard welding processes.

Students prepare for an American Welding Society (AWS) welding qualification in one of the following processes:

  • (AWS) Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
  • (AWS) Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), including applicable transfer modes
  • (AWS) Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), including self-shielded and gas-shielded processes
  • (AWS) Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)

Additional Hands-On Skills and Industry Preparation:

  • Orbital Welding Foundations
  • OSHA 10-Hour General Industry credential

Articulation

  • May also be eligible for college credits toward an AS Degree in Supervision and Management for Industry

Orbital Welding Foundations

The program also provides hands-on exposure to orbital welding, an increasingly in-demand technology in industries requiring high-precision welds. Students learn:

  • System setup and calibration
  • Joint preparation techniques
  • Parameter selection for consistent results

Through demonstrations and guided practice, students gain insight into how orbital welding enhances accuracy, repeatability, and weld integrity, preparing them for roles in advanced and automated manufacturing workflows.
