Course Description

This 40-hour SRO Basic Training course provides the participant with the history, philosophy and basic skills to serve as an SRO. Participants will receive instruction in juvenile law, counseling skills, development of a referral network, identification and ways to handle exceptional students, and classroom training techniques. In addition, participants will learn about current trends in SRO programs, law-related education and adolescent suicide. The curriculum is approved by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission as an “advanced course” and is a salary incentive course for law enforcement officers who successfully complete an exam. Note: All agencies within Orange County should be registered 30 days prior to the starting date of class. Registration will open for all agencies outside Orange County 30 days prior to the class start date. Equipment (if necessary): Note-taking materials.
